- Currently writing everyday on medium working up steam to write a novel; he already wrote to screenplays which was really cathartic
- Test questions that are looking for the “best answer” vs. the right answer drive both of us a little bit crazy
- Born and raised in Brooklyn Heights in New York until 8th grade; moved to North Hollywood, CA during the “Valley Girl” thing; lived in the Valley for 4 years; finished High School in boarding school in New Jersey
- Fish out of water in 8th grade–showed up to the first day of school in blue corduroy pants and a Yankees Jersey; the valley kids wore OP shorts and Quick Silver T-shirts with cool haircuts
- We both have come to love moving; Jonathan's father would sell homes just as they were finished fixing everything
- Standardized school system is broken; it is stuck in the past
- Went to college to play basketball thinking he was going to be the best; not so much; ended up failing out of college after two years
- Went to a new college and took classes that were interesting; graduated with honors 3 years later
- Wasn't concerned so much with grades in law school; more interested in learning to become a great lawyer; got a job within a day of passing the bar exam
- During 9-11 he was working in a government office building which was evacuated after the 2nd plane hit; this sparked a move to a job with a lower volume of crime
- First day of new job; the files were a mess–because “this is just how we do things”; nope, that won't fly
- The one question that derailed his career with the FBI
- Veered away from working in the law after his dad died; Spent 5 years working in the art world; didn't want to continue in the criminal justice while raising kids
- Learned to embrace the “veers” in life and to keep moving to the next thing
- Mentioned the blog Mr. Money Mustache who talks about reducing expenses and saving more money to retire as soon as possible
- Yes meditation is discussed as we both have a practice
- Mentioned the Michael Pollan episode of Tim Ferriss podcast about how learning to shut of the ego part of your brain can help big problems like climate change and tribalism
- Spent 3 years working in real estate; was required to answer his phone; so he quit that gig
