- What was your experience growing up in Iowa? Jeff grew up in rural northern Michigan
- What did you get out of serving in the Marine Corps?
- Went to college at IOWA and went immediately into a corporate job in Finance; was really bored in a cubical
- Escaped to Columbia to a work as a consultant while still single; found a wife but not enough income…yet
- Moved back to IOWA and worked a government job for 5 years while working on his side hustles; websites and freelancing
- Learned that early retirement is not really what we should be aiming for; because the classic version of retirement is boring to the nth degree
- Basic investment approach is to have 70-80 percent of your money in boring low fee index funds; and if you want to; explore riskier ideas with the remaining 20-30 percent
- The riskier ideas fill the emotional desire to “be doing something” and scratches some sort of itch that can be fun
